Beaumont Rosewood examines the corpse of an escape artist in Rosewood season 2 episode 12. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 11.
Rosewood season 2 episode 12 opens with Rosewood on a double date with Annalise Villa and Adrian. Rosewood admits that even though he planned the double date a week ago, he only met his own date, Kimmy, the day before.
Later, Rosewood and the team examine a body in the lab. Villa tells them that according to his car registration, the victim is Emilio Sanchez. The team realizes that the victim attempted to carve something in his skin before he died, but didn’t finish. All he carved before dying was the letter K.
Villa questions Emilio’s best friend Dani and her boyfriend Nathan. Rosewood brings up all the signs of abuse on Emilio’s body. Dani says that it’s not what they think– Emilio has been practicing to become an escape artist.
Rosewood and Villa identify a magician named Kristoff Kade, who got kicked out of the guild two weeks ago. The discover he works with doves that match the dander found on Emilio’s corpse. Kristoff escapes Villa and Rosewood, but Ira Hornstock stops and apprehends him.
Villa handcuffs Kristoff and tells him, “Good luck getting out of those, magic man.” He escapes from the handcuffs. He tells her that he met up with Emilio once last week, but it was to make things right.
Rosewood takes Adrian to a casino where he suspects Emilio spent his last night. Back at the precinct, they watch footage that confirms this. They see that Nathan was also at the casino with him.
Villa brings Nathan into the precinct. He says that he was worried about Dani and knew she was hiding something and he thought that Emilio could help.
Rosewood, Villa, Hornstock and Ryan Slade decide that rather than question everyone at the casino, they’ll go in and get people to talk while they play at the tables.
Rosewood and Villa talk to a dealer. Rosewood casually mentions that he saw a kid there the other night who couldn’t lose. The dealer responds, “Don’t worry. You won’t be seeing him again.
While Rosewood and Villa are looking at a card, they remember the K that Emilio carved over his heart. They notice that the king of hearts in the deck has a sword through his head– the card is “the suicide king.”
Rosewood, Villa and Mitchie Mendelson visit a fellow magician of Emilio’s whose nickname was the Suicide King and accuse him of giving him a trace amount of cyanide because he was jealous of Emilio’s success.
At the end of the episode, Rosewood talks to a doctor. The doctor says that his recent bender did more damage to his body than he previously thought. He tells him that he’s going to need his family.
