Tonight’s episode of Law & Order: SVU season 18 started off with a party for a man named Lawrence Hendricks where his entire family is there. His grandson, Eric, is attempting to hit on one of the bartenders and the next thing we see is her waking up with her pants around her ankles and her shirt open. She doesn’t remember what happened the night before.
The bartender, Sara, goes to SVU to talk to Benson and tells her that she thinks that she was raped. When she tells her what happened, all she can remember was meeting Eric, but nothing after that. After Sara’s tox screen comes in, they find that she was drugged and that’s why she doesn’t remember what happened.
Eric is questioned and he tells Rollins and Carisa that they had a drink and talked and then later they had consensual sex. He didn’t rape her and that’s when Eric’s father comes in and tells him that he is leaving and coming home with him, he isn’t going back to his grandfather’s house.
When they go to Lawrence’s apartment, where Eric lives with his grandfather, and they find the drugs that Sara was drugged with in Eric’s room. Benson also tells Sara that the DNA came back from her rape kit and there were actually two separate DNA samples found.
Later they bring Eric back in for questioning and brings a lawyer this time. He is trying to convince them that he didn’t rape Sara and that he had a couple too many and passed out. When he woke up she was gone. Benson gets more results on the DNA. The first sample matched Eric and the second was a close male relative.
They know that the father and grandfather were both at the party so when they go to get DNA samples from the father and grandfather, Lawrence admits to having sex with her before taking it. Meanwhile, Sara is talking to Benson and looking at pictures from the party and she remembers some more details. She is able to remember having sex with Eric and consenting to it and is worried she got him in trouble. Benson tells her that he isn’t in trouble as long as she is sure that’s how it happened. She tells Benson that the second person she knows she wouldn’t have consented to.
Benson then tells her that they know where the second DNA sample came from and shows her a picture of Lawrence. She looks disgusted because, well, he’s 75 years old and she knows that she wouldn’t have willingly have sex with him. They ask her to help them out and put a wire on her and have her set up a meeting. She agrees and is able to get him to admit to drugging her because she “needed to relax” and that he had sex with her after he gave her the drugs.
The lawyer for Lawrence is planning on painting Sara as a drug using party girl and later Barba is told that the daughter is filing a motion about the mental competence of her father. She is using this motion to try and take the company over, but they think that this is all a show because of his criminal rape trial. They think that if the company is taken from him and given to the daughter that they could then use this as proof that he isn’t able to take responsibility for his actions in the rape case.
The company is taken from him and given to his daughter and the lawyer then changes Lawrence’s plea from Not Guilty to Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity or Mental Defect. They decide to try and get Lawrence’s girlfriend to testify against him and tell the court that she planted the drugs in Eric’s room. She does and then she is asked how she knew the pills were in Lawrence’s room and she tells them that he sometimes drops them in her drink when they are going to have sex. He tries to hide that he is doing it, but she sees him doing it.
Listening to him play stupid on the stand is disturbing. He is claiming that he doesn’t know what year it is and ask Barba is questioning him he is trying to convince them that he is living in 1975. They also find out that Lawrence had a late night drink with Eric and Sara, but Eric refuses to testify against him, but Eric’s father is willing to testify against him.
During his testimony we find out that he walked away from the company, but he leaves out the part about how his father raped his ex-wife and that’s why he walked away. We find this out because Benson was able to put two and two together because when Sara met with Lawrence, he slipped up and called her Monica, which is his ex-wife’s name.
Eric is brought back in and asked about the drink with his grandfather and Sara, but he denies it. Eric’s father tells him the real reason him and Monica got divorced. Apparently Lawrence raped her while she was pregnant with Eric and they were never able to put it past them. Eric agrees to testify against his grandfather and when Eric apologizes to Sara for not seeing it sooner, his grandfather has an outburst in court.
Lawrence was found guilty of raping Sara.
