Tonight on Chicago Med 2017, Maggie is forced to face her past when the officer that arrested her last year comes through the hospital with a serious injury. Also on Chicago Med season 2, a heart transplant patient gets into a car accident which complicates her surgery. If you missed last week’s episode of Chicago Med 2017, check out my Chicago Med season 2 recap right here to get caught up!Tonight’s episode of Chicago Med season 2 started off with Clarke asking Manning out for dinner after shift, but she tells him that she might be running on fumes by the end of her shift because she was up all night. He then asks her if they can have dinner and a movie at her house then and she tells him “maybe, we’ll see.” She is trying to nicely blow him off, but he isn’t really getting it.
Meanwhile, they have an officer being brought in after the parking brake on her SUV failed and runs her over in her driveway. When they ask the officer’s name, Maggie looks like she saw a ghost. It’s Officer Windham, the same officer that arrested Maggie last year. After scans and other testing, they find that she is brain dead. When Choi introduces her husband to Maggie and explains that she is the nurse on duty, but Platt has requested someone else be put on her case, Sharon decides to put April on her case. Maggie isn’t happy about this at all.
Meanwhile, April is getting another ultrasound done and all the baby’s measurements are well in the normal range which means that her TB meds aren’t hurting the baby. Moments later we see the heart patient, Meghan, from last week being rushed in with her daughter. They got a call from the hospital that there was a heart available and they were in a car accident on their way to the hospital for her transplant.
April goes and introduces herself to Officer Windham’s husband, who is also an officer for the CPD and tells him if he needs anything not to hesitate to reach out. Meanwhile, Rhodes and Latham go to check on Meghan and tell her that her scan came back fine, but there is another problem. Her blood alcohol level is a .06 and she was supposed to stay sober as part of her transplant agreement. Rhodes goes to Dr. Charles to apologize to him for being on top of him during his vetting process, but Charles tells him that there was no need for the apology.
Choi goes to see Meghan and give her an update on her daughter, Bria. Her scans came back and there are no fractures, but they did find a mass unrelated to the accident on her spine. He tells Meghan that could be a tumor, but they have to do more testing. Meghan says that Bria had been complaining about back pain for a couple months but she convinced Meghan that it was nothing. Now Meghan feels guilty because she didn’t bring her in when she started complaining about it.
The mass on her spine isn’t a tumor it’s actually tangled up blood vessels and there is a procedure that they can do to fix it. Meanwhile, Clarke drives another wedge into his relationship with Manning by butting into her case that is being reviewed. Rhodes, Charles and Sharon are in front of the transplant committee and they vote to not give Meghan this heart because she didn’t stay sober for the 18 months required, she relapsed right before her surgery.
Meghan is saying goodbye to Bria before her procedure. Officer Windham’s heart was supposed to go to Meghan and they found another recipient for it, but they live in San Diego which is a four hour flight and if the flight was delayed, they wouldn’t be able to use the heart. They also can’t put off the harvesting of Officer Windham’s organs because of the emergent need of the other organs. Because of this, the hospital has no other option but to give the heart to Meghan. I wonder if Dr. Latham had anything to do with this decision because he seemed really upset when Dr. Charles told him that Meghan was sincerely disappointed in herself when she found out about the committee’s decision not to give her the heart.
Maggie talks to Off. Windham’s husband about taking over his wife’s care and convinces him that she bears no ill-will towards her because Off. Windham was merely doing her job when she arrested her last year. She continues to tell him that it is her job to make sure that his wife gets the care she deserves and would really like to do that for her if he will allow it. He agrees to let her handle his wife’s case.
Halstead tells Manning that even though Clarke was out of line, he was in her corner. She leaves the hospital and asks Clarke if he wants to get a drink and talk. She tells him that when Jeff died, he left a hole, a void in her heart and she needed something to fill that void. She tells him that she wasn’t fair to him, she used him and even though he is a great guy, he isn’t the great guy for her.
Meanwhile, they are harvesting Off. Windham’s organs while paying tribute to her over the police radios. They talk about all of her accomplishments and how her service was greatly appreciated and they say goodbye to her one last time. I’m in tears right now.
