In case you needed more proof that nothing about reality tv is real, here’s a scoop from Dance Moms season 7. If you watched Dance Moms 7×07, you might remember that Elliana Walmsley and Maesi Caes got the short end of the stick after their moms acted like idiots. Or so the Dance Moms producers would have you believe. Although there was definitely footage of Abby Lee Miller going to one of the competition officials and scratching the duet off of a list, Lifetime’s official youtube page released a video of Maesi and Ellie’s full duet earlier today.
Kids who are pulled from a competition don’t magically appear in videos, dancing on a stage with the Sheer Talent backdrop behind them. That’s not how this works. At all. Perhaps all of the questions about Abby’s decision to pull one of the ALDC’s duets were what prompted Lifetime’s next move: Not much later, the video no longer existed.
…but nothing on the internet ever disappears for good. A little bit of digging provided us with this baby from one of the many, many dance channels on youtube. (Y’all should watch all the things.)
As you’ll see for as long as the video stays out there, this duet had some timing issues. Given some of Maesi Caes’ past problems with learning Dance Moms season 7 choreography, I’d be willing to bet that she was just a touch bit behind the beat. Either that, or Elliana Walmsley was rushing. Whichever. There was definitely something off about Ellie’s performance regardless — see if you can spot the weird shuffle during the partner work.
Here’s what did work well in this forgotten Dance Moms duet: Performance, performance, performance. Especially with Maesi’s acting right at the very end. I hate myself for saying this because I hate the whole “new Maddie” idiocy with a passion, and I’ll probably even get backlash from the uberfans…but Maesi almost reminds me of an earlier version of Maddie Ziegler. They’re very different dancers, sure, but there are some interesting similarities. Both girls (again, we’re going with Maddie before some of the improvement, so I don’t want the uberfans kvetching) are entertainers capable a lot of skills (I refuse to call them “tricks”)…but in need of some refinement. I wonder if Abby Lee Miller will be able to do with Maesi what she takes credit for doing with Maddie.
