Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5 started off with Dawson and Casey in the social worker’s office about the guy claiming to be Louie’s father showing up out of nowhere. Severide is at the hospital having further testing done to find out if he is a match for the bone marrow donation for Anna. He is and doesn’t care about how painful the process is or any of the other things that Clarke has to say about it, he is in and ready to sign the paperwork.
The guys get a call for a young man at a local brewery who managed to get his arm stuck under several pallets holding kegs of beer. After they get the young man’s arm out from under the pallets, they guys head back to the house where Maggie is there to take some blood from Severide in case they need it during his procedure. He is told that Anna wants to meet him and Maggie tells him that if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to. She doesn’t want him to get attached to her in case the donation doesn’t take. He tells her that he is a fire fighter, he saves people everyday and “some make it, some don’t.”
The social worker comes to talk to Dawson, they did a paternity test and the guy that claims he is Louie’s father, is in fact Louie’s father. Dawson and Casey call a lawyer to find out what their options are, which aren’t many because their adoption application hasn’t been considered yet. They both tell the lawyer that they are in this together and they are going to fight til the end for Louie to be their son.
Severide goes to talk to Anna and she is over the moon about being able to meet him face to face. He finds out that her and him have a lot in common. After talking to Anna for a while, Clarke asks Severide for an emergency contact information, but he doesn’t know who to put. He ends up putting Kidd down as his emergency contact.
Meanwhile, back at the firehouse, Louie’s father shows up and asks Dawson why there is some lawyer poking around in his family business and getting very loud with Dawson, just then a call comes in and Casey and the guys start coming out. She tells him that he needs to leave the firehouse and by the time Casey gets to her, Louie’s father is already across the street. Herrmann tells Casey to let him go, Casey was going to go after him.
Dawson and Brett have to take a call for a homeless man that they have seen many times. When they get there he isn’t looking too hot, he starts having a seizure and as he is going down he smacks Dawson in the face. While dropping the patient off at Med, her and Brett are talking about whether or not Dawson will take Casey’s name and when they first thought about getting married she would keep her name, but when Louie’s adoption goes through, she thought it would be nice for all of them to have the same last name.
Brett opens up to Dawson about her being adopted and how she always wished that her birth parents care enough to get to know her. She also tells Dawson that it might not be a bad idea to meet with Louie’s father and get to know him a little and see what he is all about. When she gets home that night, she runs the idea by Casey and they call the father and set up a meeting with him.
Severide goes to see Anna again and she asks him why he decided to do this and he is honest with her. He tells her that he hasn’t always been proud of the decisions he has made in his life, but this is one thing he knows he will never regret. Just then, Anna’s father walks in and gives Severide a huge hug and thanks him for donating to help save his daughter.
Dawson and Casey are meeting with the father and he tells them that he was deployed in Afghanistan when Louie’s mother had Louie. She showed up a month ago to tell him that she had a baby while he was deployed, she told him that she couldn’t take care of Louie and started asking for money that’s when he did some digging to find out where he was. He tells them that he just wants to get to know his son, Dawson agrees to let him visit with Louie, but that’s as far as it goes, everything else goes through the courts.
Severide runs into Clarke and he tells him that they had to stop Anna’s chemo and radiation treatments to prep her body for the donation because her numbers were dropping too low. This obviously upsets Severide because he just saw her earlier that day and she isn’t ready to stop fighting. Severide is also told that Anna has a small chance to bounce back and start treatments again after her body rests, but it’s a really small chance.
We end this episode off with Severide drinking, a lot, and he is ignoring Kidd’s calls. Casey is worried about this visit with Louie and his biological dad, but Herrmann tells him that he has been more of a father to Louie than anyone ever has been. Dawson, Casey and Louie are at the diner where they are meeting with the father, but he isn’t answering his phone for the social worker and she gives them the ok to bring Louie home. Back at the house, they get a call about a motor vehicle accident and 51 responds to the call.
They find a minivan and Severide’s car, but no sign of Severide or whoever might have been driving the car. The driver of the minivan is telling them that her daughter is in the back seat, they find her on the floor and she is non-responsive. Kidd is really upset because she has been trying to get a hold of Severide all day and he hasn’t answered the call. The patrol officers come over and tell them that they ran the tags and the car belongs to a….Herrmann cuts them off and tells them it’s Kelly Severide’s car and asks them to put the call through to the intelligence division. Voight and Lindsay show up at Severide’s door and he answers it, but he has no idea what’s going on.
