Last week on The Voice 2016 Season 11, we were finally back to the normal format for the live shows! On Monday Night, we watched as the Voice Top 12 performed for our votes. It was a pretty good night, as we saw some awesome performances and got to see a little more action behind the scenes with the artists and working mentor Garth Brooks! The Voice Top 12 had some good representation on the iTunes charts, including We McDonald pulling in the highest spot in the Top 20! Then on Tuesday Night, we had the Voice Results show and Carson Daly read the results and sent one of the artists home, which was Sa’Rayah from Team Alicia after Aaron Gibson from Team Miley got the Voice Save!

It looks like we will be headed to another one of those huge eliminations later on this season, as only one singer goes home this week and voting is now open! Now to the performances!
Ali Caldwell – Team Miley – “9 to 5”
We all know that Dolly Parton is Miley’s godmother, so this is a huge song to give to Ali. She said she really has to trust someone to give them this song. While I am a fan of Ali’s voice and it is nice to see her having fun up there. I was a little disappointed with the beginning. It seemed too much like the originally and they seemed to be mixing it up in rehearsals. However, it ended strong and she threw some changes in there and big notes.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Adam said he is so happy she did a country song and it is apparent she can sing country. Blake said he is so impressed and that was so much fun. Miley said the rest of her life is going to be opening shows and closing shows. Some people are just born to be on stage.
Sundance Head – Team Blake – “No One”
Sundance brings his dad in for rehearsals and that’s kind of cool. He said he grew up idolizing Alicia Keys, so he is hoping he nails this one. This was a big risk to take on this song and while it was a little slow, he can sing. I like his voice and style and was a little bored at first, but he brought that big note towards the end and definitely woke some people up! It was cool hearing a country version of this song and he definitely ended it very strong.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Alicia said she has never heard anyone sing that song that way. It is inspiring to see how strong he is as an artist and performer. Blake said he should feel really proud of himself right now on The Voice 2016. To be singing that in front of Alicia, that was so powerful. This is a breakout moment for him on the show.
Aaron Gibson – Team Miley – “Hurt”
He got the Voice Save last week from America, Miley said they need to do something big and this song has never been done before on the show. This is a very deep and slow song. I love Aaron’s voice on it though. It allows that deep, raspy voice to shine and I think it is a very strong song choice. I like the staging and it is a dark song and he was giving us those emotions of the lyrics.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Adam said he loves that song and loves that cover. It was the perfect song for him to do. It’s not always the happiest thing being a human being and all feelings are valid and real and that is what you represented tonight. Miley said Adam said last week he wanted to see him care more and he couldn’t have done a better job tonight.
Courtney Harrell – Team Blake – “What I Did For Love”
Blake said Courtney is a songwriter, so she can play with the melody and know what that songwriter was thinking when writing it. He told her to Whitney it more in parts. I do think Courtney can sing and has a very good voice. For me, this is such a powerful song and you need to connect on those lyrics. She missed on that mark for me.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Alicia said she is so pure and she felt all of her inside that. She took it to a place that was so personal and she took America on a journey with her. Blake said this is the happiest he has seen her since he met her. She works so hard at this and he is glad she is enjoying this moment.
Josh Gallagher – Team Adam – “Drunk On Your Love”
Adam said this song seems fun and he needs to have fun on the show for a change. Josh said this reminds him of his fiancee and dedicates it to her this week. It was more upbeat and Josh was having fun with this one, which I liked seeing. He was working the crowd and even walked through while performing. I don’t know if the song showed off much of his voice, but it was fun.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Miley said he is the only one in here tonight more drunk than Blake. It felt like we were at one of your concerts. Great performance and great usage of the stage. Adam said he is so refreshing to him, as he goes up there and sings his song and connects with the audience. No one in the competition is as good as him as connecting with the audience.
Billy Gilman – Team Adam – “All I Ask”
Adam said he reminds him so much of Jordan Smith on this one. Billy sang this song during his first ever audition for The Voice Season 11, so it has been with him all along. Taking on Adele is such a huge task and he does a decent job with it, but I need the connection to the song. Is it just me or are these people not connecting to the lyrics? The coaches seem to think so, but I am not getting it tonight.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Blake asked if he ever hits a bad note. That was perfect and it was so good and he is happy for him. Adam said that is impressive. He can sing all the perfect notes, but that doesn’t matter. He needs to feel it and it felt so pure and real and honest.
Christian Cuevas – Team Alicia – “Rosanna”
After the results show last week, he popped the question to his girlfriend and she said yes, so he is engaged now! He wanted to have fun with this song this week and it was cool seeing Alicia messing with the arrangement during rehearsals. It was nice seeing him have fun and sing a more upbeat song. I liked the arrangement they went with and his voice sounded good on it. I think he is such a stronger singer and I just like him.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Miley said she has been so blown away by him and now this. To see him have so much energy with the audience. Alicia said there is no denying, his voice is huge. It is like crystal and people don’t sing with that much tone. America, you are witnessing a voice of a generation and vote for Christian, he deserves it.
Austin Allsup – Team Blake – “Turn The Page”
Blake said Austin has done a lot of these classic songs like this, but you still want to hear him do it and put his Austin twist on it. This is the type of songs that Austin likes doing and it totally fits his style and his voice. He does a good job with it and you are either going to like it or not like it. The song started slow, but he killed it at the end and definitely had that buildup.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Adam said that was by far the best performance he has had on the show. Such a cool song and such a great arrangement of that song. Blake said the way he ended that song, you have to vote for Austin. There is nobody doing what he does out there anymore. He’s just a badass.
Darby Walker – Team Miley – “You Don’t Own Me”
Miley said this song couldn’t be more perfect for her. Darby said it is going to be more theatrical and people are going to be surprised. I do think this was a perfect song choice for her voice and she had fun with it. I can’t hear it without thinking about The First Wives Club! She is definitely a little Miley Cyrus. I love the tone of her voice and it worked well with this song. She definitely put her own twist on the song and the ending was great.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Alicia said the ending was so beautifully and so cool. This is her favorite song and important for us girls to sing that song and no one owns us and she should feel amazing. Miley said she represents to these girls to be free and it is fun to be free and be colorful and not so serious all the time.
Brendan Flecther – Team Adam – “The River”
Brendan said he grew up in Jersey and he listened to Bruce Springsteen. Adam said his songs are extremely poetic and you have to sing each line by line. Brendan had such a breakout moment last week, so I think the pressure was on him for this one. Like Aaron, I love the deepness in his voice. For me, this one did not work for me and it missed what he gained last week.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Blake said he has a warm voice and a great storytelling voice and he wishes he was singing some country music now. He is jealous of him and it’s bull crap he is on Adam’s team. Adam said they conquered a lot this week and he did that beautifully. His voice is such a forgotten voice. It is truly special and one-in-a-million, so vote for him.
We McDonald – Team Alicia – “Love on the Brain”
This is a current song and We is going after it, huh? Alicia said this song fits into the vintage world that she is, but it is contemporary. Alicia said America is going to be really excited about this performance. The thing with We’s voice is it brings me right in. Some of these artists have that buildup in their songs and kill it at the end. We makes me fall in love once the song starts! I love her voice and she picks perfect songs to highlight it.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Alicia said she always comes with it. She is so young, but she is sings like she has a thousand, jillion years of living. You can’t deny that you don’t feel We. She deserves to be here and there is no limit for her.
