It’s time for them to head to work but Reese wants to continue to look. Choi tells her that he knows of a place where homeless people tend to stay. Meanwhile at the hospital, Noah has gotten April’s test results back and not only is her TB active, but she is also pregnant! She seems a little shocked by this and not very happy about it, but it could also be sinking in too.
Dr. Charles is talking to his therapist about his daughter and her interest in Rhodes and how he feels about it. She tells him that he needs to talk to his daughter about it, but he is just hoping that it won’t happen. Meanwhile, April, Noah and Will are talking and she is confused as to how she got pregnant when she is on birth control. Will tells her that her TB medications most likely made her birth control less effective and then her being pregnant weakened her immune system which allowed her TB to become active.
Manning and Will are seeing a patient who is on dialysis and in extreme need of a kidney, but he also has a heart condition so his chance of being moved up the list are slim. Meanwhile a man comes in with a stab wound, he is also an inmate. According to a guard that brought him in, he stabbed himself in hopes to get a vacation from prison for the holidays.
Meanwhile, Rhodes, Clarke and Latham have a patient with a rare genetic condition and she had fainted. We then see the man who needs a kidney, he is fighting with his brother. He is upset with his brother because he is a perfect match to donate a kidney, but for some reason, he won’t. We then see Manning, Halstead and the brother talking in the hallway and he tells them that the reason he won’t donate his kidney is because he is HIV positive. His brother doesn’t know because he is extremely homophobic and he would rather his brother hate him for what he is doing and not who he is.
April tells Tate the news about her being pregnant and he is elated by the news. Meanwhile, Choi is stitching up his inmate patient and then sending him back to prison, or at least that was the plan. Until the inmate mentioned being suicidal, now he needs a psych consult. Reese gets a visit from Lindsay and she asks Reese if there is somewhere they can talk. Reese looks at her and says “you found Danny?” and when Lindsay said that they did, she assumed that there wasn’t good news to follow. She says to Lindsay, “He’s dead, isn’t he?” and Lindsay tells her that he is. Lindsay takes Reese to the morgue to identify Danny’s body and it looks like he took a pretty serious beating.
Will gets April’s cultures back and finds out that her TB is multi-drug resistant and the only drug that will be completely effective, could hurt the baby. Dr. Charles did a psych consult on the inmate and give Choi enough to discharge him and send him back to prison. Manning and Will go to talk to their kidney patient and they tell him the next course of treatment that they are going to try. After his recent cardiac episode, his brother realized that there wasn’t much time to tell him the truth about why he won’t donate and he did. The patient asks his brother if he would donate his kidney if he didn’t care that he would contract HIV and the brother agreed, but Manning and Will could both lose their medical licenses.
The patient with the rare genetic condition called Williams Syndrome is having some major heart issues and needs surgery, but the mother isn’t sure she wants to go that route with her daughter’s care. Meanwhile, her daughter isn’t in her room, but Dr. Latham finds her close by in the inmate’s room talking to him. The mother screams for her to get away from him, after all he is a convicted murderer. They get her back to her room and Rhodes goes to check on her. The mother tells Rhodes that she is such a ray of light and if she doesn’t allow them to do the surgery, she will be stealing that away. She gives him permission to do the surgery.
Dr. Charles finds Reese in the chapel and he is trying to explain to her that this isn’t her fault, but she still blames herself because she talked him into leaving the life and it got him killed. Noah goes to Will about April and her refusing to take her new TB medication because she fears that it will hurt her unborn child. Will goes in to talk to her and tells her that if she doesn’t take the medication, there is a really good chance that her and her baby will die.
Manning is still trying to find someone that will give her the ok to do the surgery for her kidney patient and Maggie gives her the contact information for their rep at the FDA. The inmate is about to be discharged when he all of a sudden starts coughing up blood. They do a chest x-ray and find out that he swallowed something star shaped, the girl with Williams Syndrom had star shaped earrings in her ears earlier in the episode. Looks like he lacerated his esophagus.
The girl with Williams Syndrome is in surgery and when the nurse goes in to check and see if she is wearing her earrings, they find out she isn’t. Manning is sitting in the lounge when Will walks in and she tells him that she has been stonewalled by everyone when it comes to her patients kidney transplant. Will tells her that there is only way they can make this operation legal, if her patient already had HIV. They go in to tell the patient this and then tells them that if he had HIV he could get the kidney.
We end the episode off at Will and his girlfriend’s house for a “Moving In Party” that they are having to celebrate them taking the next step in their relationship. His girlfriend puts him on the spot and tells everyone that he paid for some of his medical schooling by singing at Irish Weddings and forced him to sing a song for them. We then see Rhodes and Dr. Charles’ daughter having drinks when Dr. Charles walks in and sees them. April has decided to take the new medication for her TB.
