Last week on The Voice 2016 Season 11, the Voice Knockouts kicked off on Monday Night and it was a pretty good start to the next round. One of those battles was from Team Alicia, as we saw Wé McDonald take on Courtnie Ramirez and can we just give the title to Wé already??? However, on Tuesday Night we saw it isn’t going to be an easy run to the title for Wé, as Billy Gilman returned to take on Ponciano Seoane for the Team Adam battle! Billy is definitely going to be giving Wé a run for her money this season, as Week 1 of the Voice Knockouts started with some amazing performances!
The fun has begun, so follow along with our live recap below and watch as the Voice Knockouts on The Voice Season 11 take place!

We get a sneak peek of tonight’s battles and then some smack talk from Adam Levine and Blake Shelton backstage about who has more wins and now time for the Voice Knockouts to begin!
TEAM BLAKE – Austin Allsup vs. Gabe Broussard
Austin met Blake ten years ago while performing at the same show and now he is here as a member of Team Blake. Blake thinks his song choice is great. Blake said Gabe can do a lot of runs and cool things with his voice and this song lets him show that off. Austin is up first and this was a great song choice for him. He sounds good on it and I love the growl he has going on. He is a seasoned performer. Gabe takes on a Bruno Mars song and it is crazy to think he is 15 years old! His voice is very mature and he shows off some range on this one.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Alicia said the tone and energy and Austin was aggressive. For Gabe, she said the more it went, the more he was feeling it and the control in his voice is not normal. Miley said it seems like Gabe was living for these lyrics and she was fangirling. This was an awesome song choice for Austin. Adam said he is one of Blake’s best. When you are a 15 year old boy, you can’t control anything! Blake said Austin is breaking out of the pack and creating momentum. Gabe has so much talent and all these girls freaking out.
RESULTS – The winner is Austin and no steals for Gabe, so he is eliminated!
TEAM MILEY – Darby Walker vs. Maye Thomas
Miley said they are both indie pop artists, so there is only one lane for that one her team and that is why she paired them together. She said she wants to bring Darby’s personality to her song. For Maye, Tim told her not to throw the notes away at the end. Faith said they are both stylists, so this is going to be a very interesting battle. Darby is up first and I just love the tone of her voice and her style. I have been a fan since the sneak peek of her blind audition during the Olympics! Maye is up next and she is definitely a performer. She is doing all these things with her hands and dancing around. She has a very similar voice to Darby, but I feel Darby’s is better.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Adam said there is something about the way Maye puts her performance together and it was really cool. Darby is so sweet and wonderful. Blake said this is as Miley as it gets right here. Alicia said Darby is only 17 and great to see the organic energy and very authentic. She was just riveted by Maye the entire time. Miley said there is an experience when Maye performs and it was a home run. Darby is someone that got Miley so excited for the show and she made it Darby.
RESULTS – The winner is Darby Walker and no steals for Maye, so she is eliminated on The Voice Season 11!
TEAM ADAM – Brendan Fletcher vs. Nolan Neal
Brendan was very nervous during his blind audition and Adam said his confidence is getting better and better. They all want him to let the emotions be shone and let people in. Tim said that Nolan is someone that he would want to see for two hours. They tell him he is a rockstar without that guitar, so leave it home. Brendan is up first and his voice is so deep and I love the rasp of it. This was a great song choice and perfect for his voice. How Brendan holds back while singing, Nolan is the complete opposite. He just put it all out there and that was an awesome performance and made you feel those lyrics.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Blake said he forgot how warm and full Brendan’s voice is and Nolan treated this as a knockout round and he knocked it over the fence. Alicia said two powerful voices that are special in their own right. When Nolan caught his stride, he unleashed it. Miley said Nolan is someone she would want to see in her concert and Brendan’s voice is someone she would listen to at home. Adam said Nolan is such an extroverted performer and Brendan is not that guy, but he is world class.
RESULTS – The winner is Brendan (which shocks the hell out of me) and no steals for Nolan, so he is heading home!
TEAM ALICIA – Michael Sanchez vs. Sa’Rayah
Alicia said they both have big, soulful voices and wants to see who steps forward tonight on The Voice USA 2016! Sa’Rayah is excited to still be alive in the competition, as she was one of Alicia’s steals during the Voice Battles. Michael is excited to show us his piano playing skills, as he will be there the whole time tonight. Michael is up first and I just love his voice. He is so cool and slick and he was making us feel those lyrics at the end and I loved it! Sa’Rayah is an amazing singer, but there was something about her performance that annoyed me tonight. She seemed to be trying to be a diva up there and it was taking away from her singing to me.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Miley said Sa’Rayah just lit up this room and she felt Michael won that round and maybe his glasses do something for her. Adam said it’s like a catwalk for Sa’Rayah and Michael makes you think he is not as dope as he is, but he’s a killer. Blake said he has been a huge Michael fan, but he is not quick to give it Michael because of some of those notes that Sa’Rayah just hit. Alicia said Michael was free and he is a special artist and Sa’Rayah is a ray’ah of light!
RESULTS – The winner is Sa’Rayah and that means Michael has been eliminated!
QUICK RESULTS – We found out some quick results on the night:
- Team Miley – Sophia Urista beat Josette Diaz; no steals
Now back to the Voice Knockouts!
TEAM BLAKE – Dana Harper vs. Karlee Metzger
Blake said they both have such smooth, powerful voices. Faith tells Dana to be more intimate while singing the lyrics and she is singing to the guy. For Karlee, Blake tells her to annunciate the words and when to use the power in her voice. Dana is up first and she reminds me of Queen Latifah while singing! She has such a great voice, but is so smooth and easy while singing and she shows off great range. I think Karlee has a good voice and can show off some vulnerability while singing, but she seemed pitchy on this Kelly Clarkson song and Dana was so smooth.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Alicia said Karlee was working the stage and there is an ease and joy when Dana sings. Miley said Karlee came out of the cocoon and was flying around and it seemed purely honest and true from Dana. Adam said Karlee improved so dramatically. He loves Dana and he loves her taste. Blake said choosing Kelly showed him that Karlee is willing to take risks and Dana has such an easy voice.
RESULTS – The winner is Dana and no steals for Karlee, so she is eliminated!
TEAM MILEY – Aaron Gibson vs. Josh Halverson
Aaron said his genre is alt-rock/singer-songwriter, but taking on a country song tonight. Miley said the song choice is good for Aaron and not something she would have chosen for him. Josh is actually taking on a Tim McGraw song, so the pressure is on. Josh is up first and the song is so simple, but yet so powerful. It has some strong emotions in that song and he does a great job with it. Aaron is up next and he has that rocker vibe to his voice. He is a very solid singer and gives us a stellar performance.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Adam said Aaron looks one way and sounds another way and Josh created a genuine folk moment. Blake said Aaron has a gift and a very edgy, hard sounding voice and Josh has to be the most chill person he’s met. Alicia said Aaron’s voice has all these layers in there and congratulations on a beautiful you. Josh, just beat to your own drum. Miley said she loves to see what Aaron does when he has freedom and Josh took everyone into that room with him.
RESULTS – The winner is Aaron and Alicia has that final steal to use and she quickly hits her button and he now joins Team Alicia!!!
