If you missed last week’s episode of Chicago Med season 2, check out my Chicago Med 2016 recap right here to get caught up! Tonight’s episode of Chicago Med season 2 started off with Sarah Reese and Joey walking from the bus stop and Reese gets the feeling they are being followed. Meanwhile, Manning’s young cancer patient from last week’s episode, Hailey is back in the hospital and her liver is failing which is causing her brain to swell. Later there is a young girl who has something inside her and when they remove it, they find out that the young girl and her friends are building robots and stuff for medical treatments. She is only about eight years old! Pretty impressive, but she is experimenting on herself, which is dangerous.
Meanwhile, Dr. Latham and Dr. Rhodes are doing followup with a patient of theirs who just had heart surgery and Rhodes tells him that he is doing really well. Then Dr. Latham tells the same patient that he has to open him back up because he hears a murmur, but Rhodes still doesn’t hear it. After the reopen, you can tell something is bothering Rhodes, he runs into Manning on the elevator and tells her that Latham hears sounds that no one else could hear and he seems dumbfounded by it.
On their lunch break, Reese sees someone following her again and she goes over to see if she can get whoever it to talk to her. It’s Danny from last week who was being sex trafficked by a woman who was claiming to be his mother. He came in after having withdrawals from heroin and he came back to talk to Reese because he is having suicidal thoughts. When Reese goes to talk to Dr. Charles, he tells her that she is getting too close to the case and tells her she needs to step back.
It’s starting to look like Hailey is going to need a liver transplant because the damage to her liver is most likely permanent. Manning isn’t telling them something though. She goes to talk to Dr. Charles about her and tells him that she lied to the parents and gave them false hope in a situation where their daughter might not pull out of this. He tells her that he’s sure that Hailey’s parents appreciate everything she has done for their daughter and tells her that she was doing what she thought was best. Unfortunately, later they find that Hailey’s brain stem is being effected by the swelling and she crashes. They aren’t able to resuscitate her.
Dr. Charles and Reese are talking about Danny and he apologizes to her for dismissing her concerns about him and then he takes her to see Erin Lindsay. She tells them that she will do what she can to help her get him out of that life. Reese goes to see Danny again and tries to talk him into leaving the trafficking group, but he is scared that they will come find him and kill him. He gets spooked and runs off.
Meanwhile, Dr. Choi goes to see the young girl, Shannon, who swallowed the mini robot to see what they are working on in their basement lab. He heads back to the hospital and sees Manning outside crying because of Hailey and how hopeless she felt. Choi tells her about Shannon and how they are doing these brilliant things that no one would have thought were possible 10 years ago. He tells her that we never know, one day the cure for cancer might come out of some kids’ basement lab.
We end the episode off with Danny being rushed into the hospital with a self inflicted wound in his side. When Reese gets to him he tells her that he wants to live and wants her help. They take a tracking device out of Danny’s side and Dr. Charles tells Reese that it’s a big first step, but it is just the beginning. Choi asks her what she wants to do with the tracking device and she takes it outside and puts it into water moving towards a storm drain. Meanwhile we see Manning visiting Shannon’s lab and she asks Shannon what she knows about non-Hodkins lymphoma and asks her how she would like to do some research on it with her.
