After a long distance from music after releasing their fifth album, V, and their last song, “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt,” about a year ago, Maroon 5 had to step up their game and release new music because everyone else is, and they did so, in a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar for the song “Don’t Wanna Know,” and this is the weirdest music video you’ll see today.
In an attempt to make a parody of the whole Pokemon Go hysteria, all the Maroon 5 members are dressed up as insects and constantly run away from people with phones in their hands trying to catch them, Adam Levine himself catching one.
The video is long and super weird, but the song is good, and it has that original Maroon 5 vibe that we all love, and it’s very catchy, and nothing like the video.
After the video finishes, Adam sits in a bar and starts up a conversation about how weird it is to be constantly on the run with Vince Vaughn, and then carries on running.
Obviously, another interpretation of this weird story could be that Adam and his bandmates and Vince himself are celebrities that are constantly followed by people with phones.
For the video, Maroon 5 re-teamed with Wedding Crashers director (where Vaughn starred), David Dobkin, who had also directed their Grammy-nominated single “Sugar,” who has 1.4 billion views on YouTube, and it’s the group’s most viewed music video so far.
