Alaska, Detox, Katya and Roxxxy Andrews compete for the crown in the RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2016 finale. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 7.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2016 finale opens with the queens returning to the work room after Alyssa Edwards‘ elimination. They ask Katya who she would’ve eliminated and she reveals that it would’ve been Roxxxy.
Later, Alaska gets upset as she realizes that it’s once again come down to her, Detox, Roxxxy and one other person. Detox thinks that Alaska is being ridiculous and that this situation isn’t at all similar to the last time they were in this position.
Roxxxy sits down with Alaska and tells her that she doesn’t need to put extra stress on herself right now. Alaska cries and says, “You guys are my friends and I love you so much and I don’t want to feel like that is a disadvantage to us winning.”
The queens go to learn their choreography. The others feel intimidated watching Katya. Detox says, “Katya is like a rubber band. It’s intimidating because it’s something that’s going to be very memorable to the judges.”
The queens enter the work room on elimination day. Roxxxy says, “I’m going full force to that win.” Katya says that she feels like she’s grown so much since she started.
The queens perform a group dance number and lip sync to raps that they wrote and recorded previously. Detox has very strong rap vocals, but Katya’s choreography stands out the most.
The runway category is All Star Glam-O-Rama. During the final critiques, Carson Kressley tells Alaska that her runway hair and make up are flawless. Michelle Visage tells Detox she’s the rapper of the group and her delivery was outstanding. Carson tells Katya her performance was genius. Michelle tells her, “Insanity is part of why we love Katya, but it doesn’t justify this skirt.” Carson tells Roxxxy her runway look “is everything.” Michelle tells her that rapping is clearly not her forte, but that she had fun with it.
RuPaul Charles tells the final four how proud she is that they’re part of her legacy. She says, “No matter what happens here on this stage tonight, you are a star forever.”
RuPaul asks, “One final question. Why should you, and not your fellow All Stars, be inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame?” Alaska says it’s her devotion and passion to Drag Race that makes her deserving. Detox says that she believes she’s shown growth and maturity and humility and that she could be a beacon of hope for all the weirdos out there. Katya starts off brazenly joking, but has a moment of sincerity thanking RuPaul for this chance before slipping back into character. Roxxxy says that she’ll never give up and she’ll never stop fighting.
The judges deliberate. Todrick Hall says that Alaska has slayed the competition every week. Michelle points out how bitter and childish Alaska was while she was in the bottom. Carson says that Detox blew everybody out of the water from a fashion sensibility viewpoint. Michelle says she loves how zany Katya is and that she takes risks. Michelle says that Roxxxy is kinder, softer, sweeter and more polished. Carson says, “Not the greatest actress, but I could look at her all day long.” Michelle says she has so much stage presence that “even if she’s sucking, you can’t take your eyes off of her.”
When the queens return, RuPaul says that three of them will be lip syncing for their legacy. Alaska, Detox and Katya are the top three. She tells Roxxxy, “This is not your time, but you are and always will be an all star.”
The song for the final lip sync is “If I Were Your Woman” by Gladys Knight & the Pips. After the performance, RuPaul announces that the winner is Alaska. Alaska sobs with happiness.
