Fall tv is about to start, which can mean only one thing: It’s time for the So You Think You Can Dance 2016 finale. Last week, the SYTYCD kids and all-stars competed one last time for audience votes, which will be combined with the votes for the 250th episode’s performances in order to determine this year’s winner. So, who will win So You Think You Can Dance 2016? My prediction says this competition can go one of two very different ways: Either the strongest technical dancer, who (in my opinion) has yet to put a foot wrong wins it, or it’s going to be the kid that’s improved the most over the course of this season of SYTYCD.
My prediction is that this competition will be a very close call between Tate McRae and J.T. Church. Tate has the technical goods and a maturity beyond her years both working in her favor. J.T., while not always technically sound, has captured a lot of hearts with his charisma, his special relationship with SYTYCD all-star Robert Roldan, and his hard work. If I were to base my prediction on the final performances alone, then J.T. would be the clear winner, thanks to his surprisingly strong Bollywood and his much-improved redo of the now infamous Travis Wall mirror piece.
…but that’s not how So You Think You Can Dance chooses its winner. It’s about the season as a whole (which, again, due to very different reasons, probably puts Tate and J.T. on equal footing), and the final votes are cumulative across the last two performance episodes. With that being said, I’m willing to go out on a limb and say Tate McRae has a slight edge because her choreography from the 250th episode was awesome.
If anyone beats Tate, though, it’s going to be J.T. Church.
