Rachel Goldberg struggles in the aftermath of the shooting in UnREAL season 2 episode 8. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 7.
UnREAL season 2 episode 8 opens with Quinn King telling everyone that rumors are flying about the show, but all the public knows is that there was some sort of “police incident.” Jay asks, “Oh, is that what we’re calling it?” Jay asks about Rachel and Quinn says that she’s fine.
Rachel is in a hospital bed. She’s in a complete haze. Her mother talks to a doctor but all sh hears is indistinct murmuring.
Quinn tells the crew that she’s the showrunner now and she doesn’t want to hear a word about it. Jay and Madison tell her that the girls are all asking about Darius Beck because they’re worried about him. Quinn tells them that Darius will come back soon and in the meantime they should focus on making Everlasting‘s romance happen.
An injured Darius Beck meets up with Ruby Carter. He thanks her for meeting him. She tells him, “You have five minutes. What do you want?”
Coleman Wasserman visits Rachel in the hospital and wakes her up. He tells her that he’s been trying to see her all week but her mom wouldn’t let him.
Darius tells Ruby that he wants to be done with the show and just be with her. She tells him that he humiliated her on national television. Jay arrives. When Darius asks what he’s doing there, Ruby says that she contacted him after Darius texted her.
Behind the scenes of Everlasting, the contestants talk about the new rules in which they have to judge each other. Tiffany James asks Chet Wilton about the deal they had. He promises her that she’ll get immunity.
Jay tells Darius that he’ll look out for him if he comes back to the show. Darius says, “Just because you’re a brother, doesn’t mean you’re not part of the machine.” Jay immediately replies, “Of course I am.” Jay tells him that walking away will leave him with nothing, but if he comes back and chooses Tiffany, America will swoon for him and he might become a team owner. Darius asks if he’s really okay with him choosing a pretty white girl. Jay tells him, “My mother was a pretty white girl.” Jay tells him that choosing Tiffany will get him what he wants and everyone will win.
Coleman sets up a camera and gets Rachel to talk about the shady things Everlasting has done. She’s still drugged up and doesn’t understand that he’s tricking her. He asks about what happened with Mary. After some prompting from Coleman, she says, “We killed her.”
Graham presents Chantal with immunity. As part of Chantal’s prize, the other girls will build a setting for her romantic night with Darius.
Jay returns. Chet asks if he found Darius. Jay says that he did and he made a convincing argument, so they’ll just have to see if Darius returns. Chet tells him, “Follow me because I’d like to see you do some producing.”
Jay finds Tiffany and Jameson. He tells them, “You’re both my girls, so I’m gonna need you to stick together and get in formation because Madison’s little bitches are ganging up on Tiffany and I cannot have that.” Jay tells Jameson not to take the fact that he’s pissed at her for neglecting her out on Tiffany. When Jameson walks away, Chet is clearly disappointed in Jay.
Rachel is still confessing things to Coleman on camera when Quinn walks in, along with Rachel’s mother, and catches him. Quinn tells Rachel that she can get rid of Rachel’s mother or do anything else she needs, but Rachel just brushes past her.
Quinn asks Coleman what he’s doing filming Rachel. Coleman says that it’s therapeutic. Quinn immediately says, “Bullshit. The truth incriminates Rachel.”
Rachel talks to her mom privately. She says that she hasn’t been the person her mom wants her to be since “it” happened and then asks if she’s supposed to pretend that it never happened. Her mother says that, yes, she should because no one will love her if they find out.
Coleman starts to talk to Rachel about the stuff she told him about Mary. Rachel cuts him off, saying this is not about that. She tells Coleman that she was raped when she was twelve. Her mother didn’t want her to tell anyone, which is why she’s always wanted to treat her herself.
During the elimination, the other contestants vote out Tiffany– but Darius shows up in the middle of it. Chet proudly says, “What did I say? Handled.” Jay says, “Actually, I handled it.”
Quinn tells Darius that they need to have an understanding. Darius says he’s not listening to her or Rachel, he’s only listening to Jay and that if she wants to talk to him, she’ll have to go through Jay. Quinn looks up at Jay and says, “Well, well, well. Nice work. I guess that means you’re my new number two. How does that feel?” He tells her, “It feels fine, for now.”
At the end of the episode, Coleman meets up with Yael, who is actually an undercover reporter. He tells her that she’s onto something and asks what else she’s got.
