See what went down tonight in our Food Network Star 2016 Recap below and see who went home on Food Network Star 2016 tonight!
Last week on Food Network Star Season 12, it was all about the holidays for these contestants! They started with having to cook a dish based on one of the daily food holidays that are out there, like National Fortune Cookie Day and Nation Frog Leg Day! They had to do live stream demos on Facebook with their dishes and got some helped from their loved ones while shooting the video. Jernard shined on this one and took home the victory, which allowed him to pick the holidays everyone would be cooking and demoing during the next challenge. This one came down to Ana and Jernard in the bottom two and finally Ana was eliminated!
Who went home tonight on Food Network Star 2016? Find out in our recap that follows!

CHALLENGE – Before we get started, we find out the winner of Star Salvation and it is Yaku!!! I thought he was amazing and so glad he is back. For this challenge, they have 60 minutes to create the dish of their lives and it will determine which three of them get to shoot pilots. They get help from eliminated contestants as their sous chefs and pick them out of a bag, as their picks are:
- Yaku gets Havird
- Jernard gets Aaron
- Damiano gets Rob
- Tregaye gets Monterey
Aaron constantly talked about meat while on the show, so Jernard has him working on that meat tonight. Yaku is unsure about Havird, since he was eliminated Week 1 and is giving him easy tasks to do. Damiano is making a cake, so Rob is not too excited. Rob said that Damiano stands for dictator! Yaku seems to have 80 million ingredients in his dish. Rob is definitely no help for Damiano. Monterey said the cakes are dry for Tregaye, but keeps her mouth shut about it, as a sous chef is supposed to do. The time does run out and time to shoot videos presenting it.
JUDGING – The videos have been shot and the dishes made, so time to judge the four contestants on Food Network Star 2016 tonight. Guest judge tonight is Food Network Star winner Aarti Sequeira:
- Tregaye – She keeps saying corny and it is not a good presentation. Giada said it felt forced and a little hesitation. For the dish, Bobby said he likes a lot of the flavors, but the pancakes are dry. Aarti said the crust is great on the lobster and a ton of salt, but none on the steak.
- Jernard – He is bringing out the personality and seems to be describing his dish well. Bobby said he painted a very good picture. For the dish, Giada said the pork is phenomenal. Giada said it is so good and job well done.
- Yaku – We get to learn a lot more about him in this video. Giada said she liked the explanation of his travels. Aarti said she wanted to know more about the food fusion aspect of the dish. For the dish, Aarti said the soup takes her to Jamaica. Bobby said there is a lot going on in the soup and some didn’t need to be in there.
- Damiano – His accent is too strong at times and I can’t understand him. He then lets his nerves take over, as he is forgetting what to say! He gets it together and saves himself. Aarti said he is so charming, but she wanted him to take a breath. For the dish, Bobby said this is the best dish he has given them. Giada said it has depth and shows off a lot of technique. Aarti said he brought it and a dish that makes her want to tune in and learn more from him.
RESULTS – The judges discussed the four contestants on Food Network Star 2016 and their decision is based solely on this challenge. The three contestants making a pilot tonight are: Damiano, Jernard and Tregaye! So, Yaku comes back and then gets sent home right away….that sucks!
The contestants celebrate their win, but then it is time to shoot their pilots! Up first is Damiano and their special guest director is Guy Fieri, who happened to win the second season of Food Network Star and look at him now, huh? Damiano is struggling with his words and Guy tries to work with him, but Damiano doesn’t want to be rehearsed and just do it naturally, but he seems lost now! He finally gets it together and the words start coming out easier. He chats with the chef and gets a good ending, even though he tried flipping off the camera! Guy said great improvement from beginning to end.
Jernard is next and he he wants to be like Guy Fieri, so he is loving him as a director. Guy even says that Jernard might be fighting for his job and he doesn’t like that! He makes some minor mistakes along the way, but overall it seems to go very well.
Tregaye is the final one to shoot her pilot. The place where she goes, there is a ton of different things to do there, like a restaurant, bar, zoo animals, a nightclub and more! She gets started and is fumbling over her words, so stops and is waiting on Guy, but he is ignoring her! He never told her to stop, so keep going girl. She gets it under control and she is sounding really good! She has her personality shining through and I like it. She eats some food and takes a huge bite, so can’t take until done chewing, which is funny! She wraps it up strongly and all pilots are shot and we will see them next week and find out the winner of Food Network Star Season 12 next week!
