It’s time for the Awkward season 5 finale! For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 22.
Part one of the Awkward season 5 finale opens with Luke walking Jenna Hamilton to her interview with the dean of SCU.
She walks into the bathroom and looks in the mirror, telling herself, “You belong her.” The dean appears from a stall and tells her, “I’m not so sure about that.” He asks if she realizes that this is the men’s room.
The dean arrives at their interview and he tells her, “Nice to see you again.” He says that he’s confident she’s one of the more interesting candidates.
At the end of her interview, the dean tells Jenna that if she submits an application, he’ll see her in September. When she’s not sure what that means, he tells her, “Just submit the application and I’ll do the rest.”
Afterwards, Jenna gives the good news to Luke. He starts showing her all the exciting features of SCU. She finds herself reminiscing about her experience at Wyckoff.
That night, Jenna and Luke have dinner together. Luke notices that Jenna is distracted. He realizes that she’s not sure if she wants to go to SCU.
Jake Rosati meets with Derek, his boss at the country club. Derek tells him that he’d like to offer him a promotion. When Derek tells him that he’s just like Jake and he’s been working at the country club for twenty years, Jake seems distressed.
When Jenna tells Lacey Hamilton that she’ll probably going to be SCU in the fall, Lacey immediately figures out that it’s because of Luke. Jenna insists she’s always wanted to go to SCU, but Lacey tells her to “call it what it is.”
At Lacey and Matty McKibben‘s German class, Matty announces that he’s prepared a surprise for the class to make up for blowing the last assignment. It’s a German food truck.
At the beginning of part two of the Awkward season 5 finale, everyone visits Sadie Saxton in the hospital after she was in a car crash. But, she’s not happy to see them and tells them all to leave.
When Sadie asks the nurse to tell everyone to leave, they talk in the hall about what’s going on with Sadie. They return to Sadie’s bedside, convinced that she was so angry with them that she tried to kill herself on purpose. Sadie laughs at the possibility.
Luke tells Jenna about a party at SCU. She says that she already told her friends she’d go to Camp Pookah, but he insists, saying it’ll be important for her to meet everyone before she transfers. After some arm twisting, she agrees.
Jenna arrives at the party. She doesn’t get along with the first couple people she meets, but she reminds herself that she needs to accept that she won’t click with everyone immediately and that she needs to stop thinking about her friends having fun without her at camp.
When Jenna still isn’t getting along with anyone at the SCU party, Luke suggests that she leave in order to avoid not making a good impression.
Jenna arrives at camp and is greeted by Tamara Kaplan. Tamara asks how the SCU party was and Jenna isn’t able to sound convincing when she says that it was good.
Jenna and Matty say goodbye to Jake and Tamara, which means they’re finally alone so that Matty can talk to Jenna. But, Luke shows up.
Luke apologizes to Jenna for his behavior at the party. He assures her that she’s doing the right thing by coming to SCU. She tells him, “I know.”
At the end of the episode, Jenna kisses Matty. She sits around the campfire with Matty and the rest of her friends. She narrates that Matty is her soulmate and that no matter what happens, they’ll always be together in some way.
