Tonight’s episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 17 started off with Carisi finding out that he passed the bar exam and Benson is worried about him leaving now that Dodds is also leaving. We then see a former female inmate walking down the street when a corrections officer drives up. He is threatening to violate her and send her back to jail if she didn’t get into the car with him.
Meanwhile, Fin is meeting with his son, Ken, and he finds out that he is going to be a grandfather. Ken and his husband found a surrogate who is three months pregnant with a baby boy. Just then, Ken’s phone rings, it’s the former inmate, Charisse, and she tells Ken that her former CO, Gary, just raped her. Fin calls Benson to tell her what happened and they run over to the hospital to talk to her.
When they bring the case to Barba, he tells them that this is going to end up being his word against hers and with her record, it’s not going to end well. They mention that if he is targeting them after they get out then there must be something going on inside too. They come up with a cover to get into some of their video surveillance and talk to the COs and a dozen inmates in Charisse’s cell block. They are telling them that they are investigating a human trafficking ring that is being run by a gang that may have ties to some of the inmates.
Ends up being a great cover story because they get the videos they need and find out that there are more victims and they also find out that one of the female COs is Gary’s lookout. They call Charisse to let her know that they have some proof against him, but she has been arrested and sent back to Rikers. They are able to convince Gary that they needed to bring her in to talk to her and have her pick someone out of a lineup in regards to their case.
They get her into the precinct and she tells them what happened the night before when her and her boyfriend were picked up. They find out that they may have been illegally searched, but they did find a joint in her boyfriend’s pocket and they arrested her because she started filming and then threw her phone out the window. Meanwhile, they realize that Charisse, her boyfriend, and the three other female inmates aren’t safe in Rikers. Barba gets them all released on an ROR. The problem is, none of them, including Charisse will testify against Gary Munson. Benson and Fin are able to talk Charisse into helping them out.
She calls Munson and has him come pick her up, she has a body cam on and the feed is going directly to a tablet that Benson has nearby. Charisse asks Munson if they can go for a ride, but Munson tells her that he thought that they could walk, he is clearly spooked and knows something is up. He brings her into a basement of a building and he pulls his gun out on her and pins her to the wall. He has her mouth covered so she can’t say the safe word, but the second that she can she says the safe word and they go in. He tries to tuck his gun away and zip his pants before anyone notices, but Charisse tells them that he tried to rape her at gunpoint.
The CO union is trying to say that he didn’t rape anyone and that Charisse is lying about what happened. When they go to his bail hearing, Barba wants remand, but the judge doesn’t go for it. He was released on bail and Barba is able to get a search warrant for his home to try and find anything with Charisse’s DNA on it. While they are searching Rollins finds out that Munson and the female CO are close friends, him, his wife, her and her husband go on vacations together.
Benson has her come in for questioning and while talking to her, she lets them in on something. Apparently one of the inmates has a sister that comes in to visit and Munson has been visiting her a lot lately. They think that if they can get her to testify they might be able to get the charges to stick because she doesn’t have a record and she is within their jurisdiction. She goes in front of the grand jury along with Charisse and the female CO. On their way out from the grand jury, Barba has his life threatened. This episode is going to be continued next week!
