Jenna Hamilton and Matty McKibben return to camp on tonight’s episode of Awkward season 5. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 21.
This week’s episode of Awkward season 5 opens with Jenna at Idea Bin, watching as Luke tries to smooth things over with Lizzy Raynes. Jenna thinks that Lizzy is too upset to find out that Luke is with Jenna and is sure that Lizzy has a thing for Luke.
Jenna accuses Luke of being mad because he wanted Lizzy to think she had a shot with him so that he could remain a favorite at Idea Bin. He asks, “If that’s what you think of me, why are you even with me?” She tells him that she really doesn’t know.
Sadie Saxton brings Tamara Kaplan a coffee to smooth things over. Tamara says that she thought they were friends, but now she’s not going to forgive Sadie or accept her apology.
Jenna returns to Camp Pookah for a reunion. She’s excited for “a return to home.” She’s surprised to see Matty there.
Matty tells Jenna that he broke up with Sully. Jenna tells him that she got into a huge fight with Luke. They make plans to get frozen yogurt after camp, as friends.
Jenna and Matty get frozen yogurt together. Matty tells her that Sully wasn’t good at opening up emotionally to him. When the conversation is heading in a personal direction, Jenna suggests they “get drunk and get real.”
While they drink together, Jenna admits to Matty that he was closed off emotionally, but that she hopes she’s not being too critical. He says that it’s actually refreshing because he and Sully never really talked about anything. They decide to really talk by playing “truth or truth?”
While working as a professional bridesmaid, Tamara runs into Adam. They talk about their relationship and he says that he understands why she didn’t want to get married.
Jenna and Matty get intimate as they reminisce about their relationship. Matty says the one constant in their relationship is that their timing has always ben off. When Jenna sees Luke drive by, she says, “That’s for sure.”
Tamara decides she needs to start being honest. She calls her boyfriend Patrick to tell him that there’s something she needs to tell him.
Luke apologizes to Jenna and tells her that he’s pulled strings to get her a meeting with the dean of her dream school. They drive off together, leaving Matty alone in the parking lot.
