If you missed last week’s episode of Law & Order: SVU 2016, check out my Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 17 recap right here for all the details! Tonight’s episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 17 started off with a look at a reality dating show and Benson and Lieutenant Tucker are watching at a coffee shop. Meanwhile Rollins and Carisi are watching at Rollins’ apartment. On the show, they are watching date footage from the girls and guys on the show and one of the female contestants is a virgin, or was. When the show footage of their date later on, they show her and the guy she is competing for having sex and she claims that she never would have done that because she was a virgin!
Rollins and Carisi see this and know that she isn’t acting and genuinely doesn’t remember that part of their date and right before they cut for commercial, you hear her ask, “did Ryan rape me?” Melanie, the victim, didn’t report it because she is currently cut off from the outside world, the show is still airing. Rollins says that they should at least go and ask some questions. The director, Lizzy, tells them that if Melanie wanted the police involved, they would have made that happen.
They go in to talk to Melanie, she tells them that she doesn’t remember it happening and she tells them that if Ryan and her were in love then why would he rape her? When Fin and Carisi go to talk to Ryan and he tells them that it was all part of the script, but they let him know that it wasn’t. The executive producers get back to the set and Benson, Carisi and Fin are all there when they show the morning after interview. She seems extremely happy with the night before and how the date went, but she doesn’t mention having sex. She does mention that Ryan was a complete gentleman and that made the evening special.
Melanie agreed to have a rape kit done and they found traces of condom lubricant and that’s when Ryan comes in with his mother, who is a lawyer. He tells Fin and Benson that they never had sex and that he was freaked out after she mentioned giving him her most precious gift after they were married and he left. When Benson, Rollins and Fin go back to watch the raw footage, they find that his story was true. Benson tells them that they will need all the raw footage so that they can find out who it was in bed with her and the squad goes to talk to everyone in the house.
While they are interviewing everyone, Melanie comes in and asks where Ryan is and is freaking out about getting an STD from her rapist. Benson asks the Executive Producers if they screen all the contestants for STDs and they tell them that they do and all their crew members as well. Just then, Lizzy and the Executive Producers walk in with footage from the night cameras and the footage shows Graham, one of the other contestants, went into Melanie’s room and raped her. Benson and Fin go to get his side of the story and he tries to drag Lizzy into it, but she tells him that he failed to mention that he raped Melanie in his next morning interview.
When they get Graham back to the precinct for questioning, he tells them that the producers told him not to say anything about them having sex. While they are questioning him, Benson finds out that they have started airing the footage of the Executive Producers helping with the investigation and twisting the story in every different direction they can to make it headline worthy. They even went as far as saying the Lizzy knew what happened and failed to report it.
The next morning before the Grand Jury hearing they get Lizzy in so that they can talk to her and she tells them that the Executive Producers are responsible for all the cover-ups. She agrees to help them get the Executive Producers and she wears a body cam and records them admitting to covering up Melanie’s rape.
