Jenna Hamilton babysits her sister Morgan on tonight’s episode of Awkward season 5. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 19.
This week’s episode of Awkward season 5 opens with Jenna trying to get Lacey Hamilton to trust her with holding the baby. When Lacey finally hands Morgan over, Morgan tries to breastfeed of Jenna.
Lacey and Kevin Hamilton talk about a trip Kevin has planned for just the two of them, but Lissa Miller says she won’t be available to take care of the baby. Jenna tries to convince them to let her babysit Morgan. Her parents aren’t convinced until she says that they won’t have to pay her.
Jenna is having a difficult time with Morgan. She’s surprised by a visit from Matty McKibben. Jenna says in voiceover, “I wasn’t going to cry, but apparently Morgan was.”
Jenna tells Matty that he’s kind of the reason Morgan is awake so she needs him to hold her while she answers a call from her mom.
Matty calms Morgan down but then remembers his anger towards Jenna. He tells her that he’s not sure why he’s even helping. He hands Morgan back to Jenna and Morgan immediately starts crying as Matty leaves.
Meanwhile, Tamara Kaplan‘s boyfriend Patrick asks her to meet his friends. She’s nervous about hanging out with rich girls and brings Sadie Saxton along to help hr.
Jenna tries to take care of Morgan, but in voiceover she says that Matty is the one who knows all the tricks. When Matty watches Jenna taking care of Morgan on the baby monitor, he starts to feel sympathetic.
After Matty helps get Morgan to sleep, he and Jenna fall asleep in bed together. Jenna wakes him up to tell him that her parents are almost home.
Matty and Jenna clean up and Matty leaves before Jenna’s parents come home. They tell her that they’re impressed she pulled it off all by herself.
At the end of the episode, Jenna says in voiceover, “My shameful secret wasn’t that I needed Matty’s help. It was that I wanted it.”
