It’s time for the Better Call Saul season 2 finale. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 9.
The Better Call Saul season 2 finale opens with Chuck McGill in the hospital, talking to his mother as she dies. She keeps asking for his brother Jimmy McGill and he tells her “no, it’s Chuck.” She doesn’t understand and keeps asking for Jimmy until she flatlines.
When Jimmy arrives at the hospital, he asks Chuck if their mother said anything before she died. Chuck tells him, “No.”
After the cold open, Jimmy watches Chuck in the copy store. He decides to run in so that he can help Chuck with first aid as the copy store employee calls the ambulance.
Dr. Cruz tells Jimmy that they need to run tests on Chuck and he’s not letting them do what they need to because of his mental condition. Jimmy says that he knows what she’s going to suggest, but he’s not committing Chuck.
At the hospital, Chuck tells Jimmy that he knows he bribed the copy store employee because he arrived at the shop so quickly that he must have already been there. Ernesto tells Chuck that he called Jimmy and that’s why he arrived so fast. Afterwards, Jimmy asks Ernesto why he lied. Ernesto says that from the way Chuck has been talking about Jimmy lately, he knows he’s really out to get him. He tells Jimmy that he’s his friend. Ernesto mutters, “I miss the mail room.”
Nacho Varga drives a car with a man in the back whose mouth is duct taped. He looks unhappy about what he has to do. He drives to a fenced off area in the middle of the desert. Mike Ehrmantraut follows and watches from afar.
While Jimmy and Kim Wexler sit in the hospital waiting room, they see Jimmy’s ad, which features the slogan “Gimme Jimmy.”
When Dr. Cruz retrieves Jimmy from the waiting room, she tells him that there was a complication: Chuck is now in what she describes as self-induced catatonia. Jimmy gets upset and says, “I’m sorry. This is bullshit.”
Mike buys a rifle and a box of ammo from Lawson. Lawson gives him the ammo on the house. Before he gives Mike the rifle, he wipes his fingerprints off of it.
Chuck comes out of his catatonic state and sees Jimmy sleeping next to him. He wakes him up and asks him for water.
Mike is set up to take the sniper shot when a car horn goes off. He takes out a handgun instead and heads towards the noise. He finds a car with a stick pressing down on the horn. The car has a note on it that says “don’t.” Mike looks around.
Several people wait outside Jimmy’s office. Jimmy says goodbye to one client, then assures the ones who are waiting that he’ll get to them soon. Kim tells him that Howard Hamlin keeps calling him about Chuck.
When Jimmy confronts chuck about the news he received from Howard that he’s retiring, Chuck says that it’s because he made a mistake. He thinks that electricity is making him lose his faculties. Jimmy finally tells him that he was the one who forged the documents. Chuck asks Jimmy if he realizes he just confessed to a felony. Jimmy says, “I guess, but you feel better, right? Besides, it’s your word against mine.” After he leaves, Chuck moves a blanket and we see that he was recording the conversation.
