Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak have a wedding in order to bait Cupid on tonight’s episode of Arrow season 4. For a refresher on what happened in the last episode, read my recap of episode 15.
This week’s episode of Arrow season 4 opened on Cupid torturing a couple that she has tied up. She tells them, “Love is a bullet to the brain.” After killing them both with arrows, she adds, “Or an arrow to the heart.”
Laurel Lance has to provide enough evidence to keep Damian Darhk locked up until his trial, after his defense’s motion to dismiss.
Felicity packs up to move out of her place with Oliver. Sh asks him to cancel the wedding venue. Oliver is clearly hurting, but he reluctantly says that he’ll get around to cancelling it. He tells her that the movers will swing by whenever she’s ready and she just has to give them a call.
Oliver meets Quentin Lance at a crime scene. He shows him one of the arrows used to kill the couple and Oliver recognizes it as Cupid’s.
Back at Arrow Headquarters, Quentin says that the note Cupid left behind shows her new M.O.: “Love is Dead.” Felicity quips, “Maybe she’s not so insane after all.” That is brutal.
Felicity traces Cupid’s location and Team Arrow goes after her. When Thea Queen is injured, Oliver goes after Cupid alone, despite Felicity telling him, “Let them help you.” While Oliver is saving the couple Cupid has captured, she gets away.
Back at Arrow Headquarters, John Diggle explains that Cupid really fell for Floyd Lawton last year and she fell apart when he died. Felicity says it makes sense if you look at things from Cupid’s perspective: love betrayed her and now she’s declared war against it.
After discovering that Cupid is targeting high-profile couples who plan to marry, including Oliver and Felicity, Thea says that they just need to figure out the next high-profile couple that’s getting married. Oliver says they shouldn’t take that risk with an innocent couple. He tells Felicity, “Hey. We need to get married.”
Felicity tells Oliver this is the worst idea he’s ever had. Diggle points out that this will lure Cupid out and Thea reminds Felicity that they’ll be there to protect her.
Quentin testifies about the things that Darhk forced him to do, under the threat that he’d kill Laurel. Quentin knows this will hurt his job, but believes it’s the best way to build a case against Darhk.
Oliver and Felicity arrive at the venue, which is still available because Oliver hadn’t yet cancelled. At the staged wedding, Felicity keeps her vows simple and off the cuff. She says, “Oliver, you have many qualities, many astonishing qualities, and I for one cannot wait to move onto the next chapter.” Oliver recites his very sincere vows as he slips a ring on Felicity’s finger. He says:
Felicity, before I met you, I had a plan. I had a way it was going to be. Then you walked into my life— alright, I showed up at your cubicle— and you changed everything. I was in the darkness but with your kindness, your generosity, your compassion, your wit and your trust, you brought me into the light. You let know that I deserved it. You were that light. And I don’t know if I still deserve that trust, if I deserve you, but whatever has happened, whatever will happen, the way you make me feel is the best part of my life. Don’t ask me to say that I don’t love you because I will never lie to you again. You are my always and I just want a chance to be yours.
After Oliver says his vows at the wedding, Cupid arrives and shoots him with an arrow. She says, “Oh, sorry, I didn’t check your gift registry. Was an explosion that would bring down this whole building on your list?”
Oliver takes the arrow out and says that he was wearing kevlar under the tux. She reminds him that she still has the bomb.
When Cupid repeats that love is just a bullet in the brain, Felicity disagrees. She steps closer to Cupid and she tells her:
Love is life itself and if I die tonight, it’ll be okay, because I was one of those people lucky enough to have experienced it. From the moment he walked into my life, everything changed. I became a person that I didn’t even know I was capable of becoming. I became the very best version of myself. That would have never been possible without our love. Our love gives my life meaning, it gives my life purpose and it brings us more joy than you could ever take away from us. And it’s worth living for, all of it.
Thea and Diggle arrive to fight Cupid and tie her up. Oliver shoots her with a tranquilizer, then asks Felicity if she’s alright.
The police arrest Cupid. Oliver asks Felicity again if she’s okay. Oliver suggests that they meet up and talk about their relationship. Felicity says not tonight because they’re both exhausted. Oliver asks about tomorrow. Before Felicity can answer, they’re interrupted by Thea.
Oliver tells Felicity that he can be different and he promises he’ll never lie to her. She says that there’s always going to be a part of him that defaults to being a man who always acts alone and sooner or later he’s going to be in a situation where he makes a decision to requires him to hide things from her.
Felicity tells her that it’s too hard to be with the team every night when she’s not really with Oliver– it would be too hard on both of them. She assures him that the team will be fine without her. She tells him, “We have to let each other go.”
In the final scene of the episode, Darhk is taken to a cell. However, he takes his magic ring out of his mouth and puts it on.1 of 1
